Janis's Favorite Sayings
Just for fun, here are some of the slogans, sayings, quotes,
mottos, and one-liners that I've been collecting over the years. In
most instances I have no idea who said them, but when I do know, I'll list
the author. So, here they are, in no particular order - except that when I add to the list, I'll add to the top of it.
Enjoy!
"Dear Lord -- So far today, I'm doing all right.
I have not gossiped, lost my temper, been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish,
or self-indulgent. I have not whined, complained, cursed, or eaten
any chocolate. I have charged nothing on my credit card. But,
I will be getting out of bed in a minute, and I think I will really need
your help then."
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention
of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but, rather, to
skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly
proclaiming--Wow! What a Ride!"
"It's not the direction of the wind that determines your direction in
life, it's the set of your sails."
"Keep your fork - the best is yet to come."
"It's hard to put your foot in your mouth if you keep your mouth shut."
"Read a Romance -- your heart with thank you." -- Janis
Reams Hudson, for the Romance Writers of America web site
"Smart women read Romance." (I think this belongs to
author Susan Wiggs)
"Just do it" -- Nike
"Caution! Next mood swing: 6 minutes."
"Real women don't have hot flashes, they have Power Surges!"
"I have PMS and a handgun. Any questions?"
"I did not - have - sexual relations with that woman . . ."
-- Bill Clinton
"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?"
Never Kiss a Goat on the Lips (this was the title of a book that came
out years ago about a family's adventures in moving to the country. It's also very
good advice!)
"Some leaders are born women" -- Evan Picone clothing tag
"It's a poor dog that won't wag its own tail." --
Georgina Gentry's grandmother.
"Well I'll swan." -- my grandmother, Myrtle Lillian Miller Brown
A favorite example of how things can be skewed by taking them out of
context (or edited by some crafty editor) comes from the Bible: "Judas hanged
himself" followed later with, "Go thou and do likewise."
